As the year comes to a close, it’s important to navigate the highs and lows of your eCommerce journey. Review your successes and stumbles with me as I share my own process for reflecting on my business journey this past year. As we look at our accomplishments and struggles, I will guide you through reflecting on your year without judgement so that you can prepare for the new year armed with positive mindset and essential insights from your past experiences.

Grab a pen and paper or open up a digital document and get ready to look back at your business journey.

Let’s Review our past year together. On paper or a digital document, do the following:

Reflect on your Accomplishments

Take about 5 Minutes and write a list of things you’re proud of that you and your team accomplished. Let your mind flow freely and don’t worry about whether or not something is good enough or worth writing. Write anything positive that you feel proud of.

Reflect on your Struggles

Take about 5 Minutes to write a list of things you struggled with or feel short on. Don’t judge yourself or feel ashamed, just write them down freely.

Analyze your Struggles

Take 10-15  Minutes and go through your list of struggles and ask the following:

  1. What did you learn? What went wrong?
  2. What could have been done better?
  3. What changes would you make next time?
  4. What metrics would you track to help you succeed? Be specific.

Analyze your Accomplishments

Take 10-15  Minutes and go through your list of accomplishments and ask the following:

  1. What did you learn?
  2. Why did this go well?
  3. Would you make any changes so it can go even better?
  4. Did you track specific metrics to help this goal happen?  Can you apply that to items that didn’t go well?

Take a Break and Revisit

Take a break and review these notes in a day of two and consider the following with a fresh pair of eyes:

  1. What would you add?
  2. What do you see differently now that you processed it all?

Remember, while this activity can be hard, the goal is to keep an open and positive mindset so you can propel your business forward. We can’t fix what we don’t monitor, and we can’t celebrate what we don’t recognize!
